The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act offer many opportunities to accelerate the decarbonization of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.
In the report, Clean Fuels Michigan offers three key principles for Michigan’s use of Federal Funding:
- Prepare for the future by promoting flexibility
- Prioritize projects that amplify economic returns
- Focus on overcoming barriers to entry
“Our newest report offers an overview of the opportunities funded by the IIJA and IRA that will help accelerate the decarbonization of medium- and heavy-duty vehicle fleets. Medium- and heavy-duty vehicle decarbonization is critically important for our economy and air quality, and we need to begin preparing the infrastructure to support electric, hydrogen, and other clean fuel vehicles at scale,” said Jane McCurry, Clean Fuels Michigan Executive Director.
There has been a lot of focus on the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program (NEVI) which will build important infrastructure for passenger EV travel. This report shines a light on the importance of also investing in the commercial vehicle sector’s decarbonization.
The report offers an overview of federal funding available for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles and infrastructure, as well as a series of policy recommendations for the State to harness those opportunities.
